Z Center Stage Theater Company is so excited about our upcoming spring musical The Pirates of Penzance for several reasons. In May we are going to be putting on a great family show in our state of the art auditorium!! Since the recent remodel, our seating capacity has doubled and we have real theater seats with handicap accessible areas and a hearing impaired listening system. The stage area has also been improved, as have been the lighting and sound systems. We can’t wait to show you what we have been doing in our fabulous new space!!!

Our production will be May 7 and 8 and May 13, 14, and 15. All shows will be at 7 p.m. with the addition of a matinee especially for families at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 15 th. After the matinee, we will have an ice cream social and an opportunity to get your picture taken with the characters from The Pirates of Penzance.

This show is a very fun challenge for us. The Pirates of Penzance, is one of Gilbert and Sullivan's best-loved operettas, which means ZCSTC students tackle some difficult singing along with the goofy characters found in this play from 1897. The story features a band of buccaneers commanded by the swashbuckling Pirate King. They have a pirate-apprentice, Frederic, who celebrates the end of his indentures on his 21st birthday by announcing that he will abandon pirating and devoting himself to their destruction. His resolve is strengthened when he sees Mabel, one of Major-General Stanley's beautiful daughters, and is immediately smitten. But wait: the Pirate King points out that Frederic was born during leap year, on February 29, and is legally only “5 and a little bit over.” He still owes the pirates many more years of plundering! Will Mabel wait for him (over 40 years???!)? Will the Major General fall to the angry Pirate King? Will the cowardly constables save the day? You just have to watch to find out! Filled with wonderful tongue twisting lyrics and gags, along with beautiful music, this show is a must see for families and those just looking for a really fun evening!
